Here at St. Gregory parish, music plays a very important role in the Liturgy. St. Gregory himself was a great promoter of Liturgical music. All are welcome to share their gifts and talents with the Music Ministry.  Remember, "Singing is praying twice."

Our Composer in Residence: Bernard Sexton

Bernard Sexton is an Irish composer who has been working in the area of sacred and choral music for the past twenty five years. He pursued his undergraduate music studies at University College Dublin and DIT Conservatory of Music,  and holds a Masters in Composition from the University of Chichester.  Many of his compositions have been published by leading publishing houses in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States and his music is frequently performed on RTE national radio and television .  He has been a prize-winner at every sacred music competition in the last 25 years and his most recent setting in English, the Mass of Renewal, has won praise for its accessibility and musical integrity.  In 2012, Bernard was commissioned to write the anthem,  Though We Are Many, for the International Eucharistic Congress which was held in Dublin; this hymn has become an established part of the repertoire of choirs world wide and was sung at the Mass celebrated by Pope Francis during the Papal visit to Thailand in 2019.  His music featured at all of the main liturgies during the World Meeting of Families  2018 and his composition, The Last Supper was performed at the closing liturgy of this event in The Phoenix Park, Dublin in the presence of Pope Francis .   Bernard founded the multi-award winning chamber choir, Anima, and he  is currently associated with some of Ireland's premier choral ensembles.  His recent commissions include a new official Mass setting of texts in the Irish language,  a Mass setting to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Cobh cathedral which was premiered in August 2019 and commissions from St Gregory Catholic Church, Phoenix, AZ.   Bernard was music director/ composer for the new revised national primary school religion programme , Grow in Love, published by Veritas, Ireland.  He is currently guest lecturer in liturgical composition at Maynooth Pontifical University.
